Canal Pub on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal
Guide To Crooke Hall Inn
The Crooke Hall Inn, located in the picturesque village of Crooke just outside Wigan, is a cherished landmark with a history dating back to the 1860s. The land was purchased by Thomas Morris for £346.16.8 in February 1862. This charming canalside establishment has become the heart of the community, earning the prestigious CAMRA branch Community Pub of the Year award five times since 2014.Originally situated in an area with a rich industrial heritage, the pub has witnessed a transformation from coal mining terrain to the peaceful canalside setting it enjoys today. Visitors are attracted to its welcoming atmosphere, where homemade food made from locally sourced ingredients is served in comfortable surroundings. The inn features a separate cellar bar, ideal for functions, and a spacious beer garden overlooking the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Throughout its history, the Crooke Hall Inn has been managed by a succession of dedicated landlords, starting with John Tyrer in the 1870s and continuing with the Barton family, who maintained ownership for decades. Their contributions have helped establish the inn as both a social hub and a testament to Lancashire’s canal heritage.

Stayed over in our motorhome for the night. We were made so welcome by staff and locals. Food was lovely and would highly recommend as a stopover or call for a meal. Great beer garden too on the side of the canal.

The staff was very polite, friendly and helpful, the service was great and the food was excellent. Added bonus for us is they’re dog friendly, they bought a bowl of water and have a doggie menu. Definitely recommend and will go again.

Good village pub on the canal. Lots of space, great for families, dog friendly and well priced real ales. Would recommend to others.
Just returned for some food and was delighted with the service and food. Excellent value, and very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place.

Slightly off the beaten track, but worth finding. Excellent cask beers. Good food. Summer music festival every month. Lovely scenery. Note this pub does close earlier if quiet, so check ahead.

Well worth interrupting your canal side walk for a pint or two of Wigan brewed cask ale at this traditional old pub. Friendly staff and regulars will ensure you enjoy your stop off. An extensive menu is on offer for those who want something to eat.
