The head chef, who has received awards for his culinary skills, crafts delicious dishes using locally sourced Lancashire ingredients. Visitors particularly praise the expertly prepared 9-oz ribeye steaks, tender Sunday roasts, sumptuous fish and chips, and flavorful curry options, all of which contribute to The Slipway’s reputation for exceptional food.

The inviting atmosphere is enhanced by the restaurant’s beautiful location alongside the ship canal, where twinkling lights create an enchanting ambience for both indoor and outdoor dining in the beer garden. Stopped here with my campervan for a night. Free as long as you use the pub – so I had a couple of beers, a meal and a great night. Very friendly and welcoming staff for someone passing through. Boating community in pub and at the moorings were also very friendly. I’ll definitely be back.

Came across this place in our campervan. They allow overnight parking if you use the pub. They also allow well behaved dogs inside.

It’s obviously a work in progress at the moment (October 2024), but you see what they are aiming for with renovations to the adjoining building.

Very friendly staff, and some good wines available.

Some locals in the bar could do with moderating their language but otherwise a positive experience.

Food was okay but not special.

Very attentive staff.

Nice location by the canal with picturesque walks.

A great stop over between Southport or Liverpool areas on the way back to the M6.

Parking is free if you use the pub otherwise it’s quite expensive.

What a beautiful location, being able to sit by the canal watching the boats sail past. I had the trio of meats. Ham, chicken, and beef. With roast potatoes, tender stem broccoli, carrots and swede, red cabbage, sage and onion stuffing ball, pig in blanket, Yorkshire pudding and a delicious gravy. It was beautiful and the plate was clean at the end. My backpartner had Belly pork. The staff were lovely and friendly. The sun was shining. A great Sunday lunch. Well worth a visit. We will definitely be coming back .

We have visited the Slipway a couple of times & have found each time an enjoyable experience. The service was friendly & and attentive. we both had the Gourmet beef & pork burgers, which we found really tasty. The view of the canal and wandering ducklings was adorable & will definitely be returning again.

Visited today with the dogs whilst out cycling, 2 mains for £15. We both had fish and chips with 2 teas and a cold drink and it came to £20!!! The chips were home made, fish was lovely and the tartare sauce tasty. Amazing value for money in a great setting. We will repeat as often as we can, we’ve drove past often and can see now why it’s always popular.
