Canal Pub on the Lancaster Canal
Guide To The Tithe Barn
Th'Owd Tithe Barn is a charming establishment with a rich history that dates back to 1710. Located on Church Street in the bustling market town of Garstang, this landmark originally served as a post-medieval tithe barn for storing grain and corn. Today, it has been transformed into a delightful canalside pub beside the picturesque River Wyre. The building retains its architectural heritage, featuring magnificent roof beams that form a box frame structure. Although many of the air vents in its brick walls are mostly blocked now, they serve as a reminder of its agricultural past, when proper airflow was essential for storing crops.
What sets this pub apart is its unique interior décor. Farming implements, tools, and local craft memorabilia hang from the beams and walls, creating a living museum of agricultural history that patrons can appreciate while they dine.
Overlooking the colourful narrowboats moored in Garstang Basin, Th’Owd Tithe Barn offers visitors a perfect retreat to enjoy traditional pub classics made from seasonal ingredients. Guests can also savour local ales, all while experiencing the friendly service and homely charm that have made it a beloved fixture in this Lancashire community.

Canalside pub with comfortable sunny beer garden and large dining area with a good menu.
Allows overnight camper van parking, best to park up in the evening to get a space. Worth ringing ahead if you want to park up overnight. Quiet night’s sleep.

It was a pleasure to visit Th’Owd Tithe Barn, wonderful atmosphere and even more awesome people’ we were lucky enough to visit the pub at night and then the next day after a long day of paddle boarding. As usual the pub garden was busy and had a great atmosphere. I really appreciated how friendly all the staff were!
Food was also great! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

An amazing historic building from 1700s, it is more like a cultural museum for Garstang than a pub.
We were looked after by Ali (Alison?). We had a mushroom bourgunion pie, mac& cheese and some of the local alcoholic beverages. Good portions.
Ali informed me that it gets very busy during the warmer days due to it’s prime location.
Clean throughout, a place to take your children to get them interested in history and learning.
Pets are treated like VIPs.
I would recommend.

Gorgeous pub/restaurant, very attentive staff upon arrival.
4 of us ordered the pie and paring , Wednesday special, pie and a drink for £16, great value for money, pies were lovely, crisp pastry and filled to busting 😁
Service was very good.
The decor is farming inspired, it has you looking and finding different things.
The icing on the cake was the HUGE fireplace, with a log burner, keeping us toasty on a chilly night.
All in all, we would all definitely return, the menu was very varied with something for most tastes, and all reasonably priced
