Originally a lock keeper’s cottage, it was converted into a small licensed café in the 1960s before becoming a pub in 1978 under the ownership of the Gilkes family, who still operate it today.

Great little, slightly old fashioned and quirky, inn by the side of the lock. Lovely welcome and great service. This place is worth a visit even if it’s just for a drink. Lots of choice too

It’s a nice place to sit and watch the canal boats go through the lock.
The carpark has had new gravel put down, whilst perfectly fine for cars, leaves a lot to be desired when riding a motorcycle.

A great spot on the canal, dog friendly with a good choice of drinks and food at fair prices.

Visited on a canal boating holiday, moored almost outside.
Great pub, friendly, reasonably priced drinks and canalside views. Only had a drink so can’t comment on the food but looked nice.

What a beautiful wee pub, sat on the canal side. Really friendly staff, excellent ales and beers. Didn’t eat but the food looked and smelled amazing. Absolutely gorgeous place in summer with loads of outside seating.
