Canal Pub on the Macclesfield Canal
Guide To Ring o’ Bells
Throughout its nearly two centuries of existence, the Ring o’ Bells has served a variety of communities, from canal bargees navigating the Macclesfield and Peak Forest Canals to wedding parties celebrating after ceremonies at the nearby All Saints Church. Despite numerous renovations—most notably in the 1920s and again around 1980—the pub has retained its village charm by preserving two small snugs that contribute to its character as an actual local establishment. Additionally, its secluded beer garden, located alongside the canal, provides a tranquil setting for patrons.
Today, while the Ring o’ Bells is well-known for its quality dining, it continues to honour its heritage as a gathering place for the Marple community, seamlessly blending historical significance with contemporary hospitality.

Went shopping in Marple on Thursday 26/June thought we would have some lunch in the ring O bells having checked the website before hand menu looked quite good, don’t bother guys the place is shut down. God knows why they don’t take the website down if they cease doing business.

Found the Ring O’ Bells on the off chance on a day out to Marple, so glad we did. Landlord and staff very efficient and friendly, we were made to feel very welcome. Great traditional Ploughman’s, and ham, egg and chips excellent, and nice to have a chat with the Landlord. We would definitely recommend the Ring O’Bells.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to a short break in Glossop and glad we did.
Had the homemade chilli with rice and a side of chips.
I normally like my chilli with a bit of a kick but can understand why this had to be tamer to accommodate everyone, was still really tasty as were the chips.
Had the pleasure of chatting to both the landlord and landlady too which only enhanced the visit, both really lovely with good knowledge of places to go and see nearby.
Would definitely stop by again given the chance.

We had Sunday lunch here. I had turkey, which came with a generous portion of fresh vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, & roast potatoes. My wife had the naked Sunday lunch, basically a large Yorkshire pudding filled with vegetables and gravy. It is disappointing that there was no Vegan Sunday lunch option, for example fake meat or a nut roast. Despite this disappointment this was the best Robinson’s pub we ate in during our holiday.
The pub is dog friendly in certain rooms. There was a stupid rule that water could not be served to dogs inside the pub, only outside. Other Robinson’s pubs we visited during our holiday had water bowels inside. There was a dog menu available, but we didn’t try anything from it.
I had a desert which was nice.
Our food and drinks were £25 per head.
The pub is in a good location in Marple, right by the canal.
Note We only ate and dank here. We didn’t stay in the accommodation.

Good food and decent portion sizes at a fair price. Also friendly atmosphere. Been back three times now and never been disappointed.
