Canal Pub on the Staffs and Worcs Canal

Guide To The Angel

The Angel Inn, located on the picturesque banks of the River Severn in Stourport-on-Severn, is a historic riverside establishment that dates back to the 18th century.

Originally known as the Virgins Inn, this pub served river boatmen and predates the arrival of the canal in 1772, making it one of the area’s oldest drinking establishments.

The Angel Inn features charming architectural elements from various eras, including a distinctive Georgian bar with wooden floors that preserve its historical features. Today, this popular venue, operated by Marston’s, offers four well-appointed en-suite guest rooms with riverside views. Guests can enjoy a large terrace overlooking the water, which is especially popular during the warmer months, as well as quality dining options, including specialities like steak grilled over lava stone.

Ale enthusiasts will find several well-kept real ales from the local BOA brewery, including the regular Lock N Load, along with changing guest beers. Additionally, real cider from Barbourne is occasionally available.

With its combination of riverside charm, historical character, comfortable accommodation, and quality refreshments, The Angel Inn continues to welcome visitors as a quintessential English waterside retreat.

Stayed over for one night, room was clean and tidy and had a great bathroom, with a proper bath, we had a great friendly welcome off the chap from the North East, who had also altered arrangements for us at short notice, really idyllic location, tucked away on the riverside, with a small car park for patrons.

Had a good night’s sleep too, would definitely stay again and next time make sure I’m not driving the next morning so I can have a cider of two!

Thank you

Lovely pub, good beer if a little exspensive but very nice to sit outside in the summer.

Edit…dropped my rating as went back the weekend as wanted a coffee…paid 3.50 and got awful coffee in a paper cup…asked the manager that for the price could I at least have it in a mug or cup…he gave us cups to pour it into but had literally less than 1/2 a cup of coffee served…happy to pay premium for coffee but expect premium quality and service…definitely room for improvement.big mark up on coffee so no need to be tight
