Canal Pub on the Staffs and Worcs Canal

Guide To Bird in Hand

Located along the scenic canals of Stourport-on-Severn, The Bird in Hand is a charming traditional pub that offers visitors a classic waterside experience.

The inviting establishment features a multi-room interior with low wooden-beamed ceilings, classic brown and cream decor, and a welcoming open fire that warms guests during the winter months.

The pub boasts two distinct beer gardens: one located alongside the canal, providing stunning waterside views, and a second gated area at the rear with ample bench seating for those seeking a more secluded atmosphere. Real ale enthusiasts can enjoy a selection of quality brews from hand pumps, featuring regional favourites such as Hobsons Town Crier, Holdens Golden Glow, and Wye Valley beers.

Following recent renovations, the upstairs has been transformed into three comfortable en-suite guest rooms, making it an ideal base for visitors exploring the Georgian tourist town of Stourport and the various leisure activities available along the UK’s longest river, the River Severn. With its prime canalside location and a mix of traditional pub charm and modern comforts, The Bird in Hand embodies the relaxed waterfront hospitality that characterises this historic region.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My now fiancé booked The Bird in Hand for my birthday after our visit to West Midlands Safari Park, and it couldn’t have been more perfect – especially as it’s where we celebrated our engagement!

We’d never been to the area before, but it was honestly the loveliest stay. The view, the accommodation, the service, the breakfast, and the staff were all incredible. My fiancé and I are very fussy, but we didn’t need to be here – the bedroom was spotless, tidy, and had everything we needed (even a fan, which we really appreciated!).

We were also given great local recommendations for dinner, and the one we tried was pure perfection. Breakfast the next morning was exquisite – again, we’re picky when it comes to food, but it was faultless.

From start to finish, it was amazing value for money, with a perfect view and a beautiful walk down to the pub that made the whole experience even more special. This is now our new favourite place, and we can’t wait to come back for our anniversary to celebrate again!

Moored up to have lunch. Numerous signs outside saying food. But walked into an empty pub asked about food and were told a stern no. When I questioned the signs, shoulders were shrugged and I was simply told they don’t do food anymore. Judging by how empty the place was on a Saturday lunchtime I think they could do with re opening the kitchen, but what do I know.

Very pleasant. Nice spot beside the canal. Very friendly service. Room very clean, only downside of room was the very under powered shower with lack of pressure.

Lovely location quiet and on the lovely canal with a very short walk to centre of town.

Shared kitchenette allows for easy take-out or delivery meals and also plenty of restaurants nearby as well as simple pub food downstairs.

Over a pub so some noise unavoidable on Friday and the weekend. Separate entrance with own key access at any time.

Plentiful breakfast made to order by friendly hosts.

Small rooms not really suited to business traveller but fine for holiday couples.

Electric showers cut out due to low water pressure which was disappointing.

Very convenient parking, although there was no guarantee of a spot when returning in the evenings.
