Day Boat Hire on the Mon & Brec Canal

Guide To Dragonfly Cruises

Nestled in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, Dragonfly Cruises offers a captivating journey along the historic Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, departing from Brecon’s picturesque Canal Basin at Theatr Brycheiniog.

Aboard their 50-passenger vessel, visitors embark on a 2.5-hour voyage through the Welsh countryside, gliding beneath a 200-year-old aqueduct spanning the River Usk and experiencing the gentle rise and fall of a working canal lock—engineering marvels predating modern transportation systems.

What a great time we had today. My Mum is 83yrs young and was a bit worried about getting on and off the boat. Absolutely no need….the guy’s were brilliant and helped her up and down the steps. The whole crew were lovely. Snacks and drinks were available at a good price. Stopped off for photo’s etc when the boat turned round halfway. It was a fantastic trip lasting 2.5 hours. Highly recommend.

A great couple of hours. Mike the operator is great very helpful. 2 hours gets you to the first lock and back plus time to walk across the canal aqueduct. Beautiful peaceful scenery along the way. Great fun.

Great trip, its around 2 hours in total and they let you get off at the end and have a look at the river. Also the family that runs this boat doesn’t mind if you bring your own food. There isn’t that much to see to be honest along the trip so dont look forward to big castles or much history.

The Brecon Canal is by far the prettiest we have travelled on. Stunning views that change at every corner. If you can book it outside of peak times it is even more peaceful. Mikey was really friendly and even gave our excited dog a few treats before we headed off for the day. A super relaxing day that puts you back in touch with nature.
