Lovely way to spend an hour or two. Learnt about the history of the blast furnace and the industry in the surrounding area, enjoyed a short canalboat trip on the Ashby Canal, and went for a walk in the neighbouring Donisthorpe Woodland Park. Drinks and icecreams available at takeaway desk in museum, or from The Hub (not part of the museum, but next to the free car park).

We had a fantastic day at Moira Furnace Museum and Country Park. It’s a perfect mix of history, nature, and family-friendly activities. The museum itself is really interesting and well presented, giving a great insight into the area’s industrial past without feeling overwhelming.
The surrounding country park is just as impressive – beautiful walks, peaceful canals, and plenty of open space to relax. Everything is well maintained, and there’s a lovely, calm atmosphere throughout.
Staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable, happy to answer questions and clearly passionate about the place. It’s ideal for families, dog walkers, or anyone looking for a relaxing day out with a bit of history thrown in.
Highly recommended – we’ll definitely be coming back!

Pleasant walk along the short section of restored canal and the small museum is interesting to see. Free parking too and a small cafe on site. Short boat trip runs from outside the Furnace.
