The pub retains much of its 1930s character, featuring original Crittall windows, timber beams adorned with gleaming horse brasses, and historic fireplaces that display markers of past flood levels. Rich in history, The Camp House holds a special “Cromwellian license” awarded for its beer quality, and it boasts a curious connection to Queen Elizabeth I, who is said to still owe the Wainwrights money from her stay at nearby Hallow Park.

Known for its excellent selection of real ales and ciders—including Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and various Thatchers ciders—the pub welcomes visitors with roaring log fires in winter and idyllic gardens in summer, where four peacocks (all named Neil) roam freely. It is a cherished sanctuary for locals, tourists, and wildlife alike.

Absolutely beautiful little gem along the river! We had gone for a bike ride and stumbled across this gorgeous little pub! Stunning location, animals roaming free!! Very old fashioned decor which I personally absolutely love! I felt like the whole building had so much character! We sat outside and enjoyed a home made pork pie and a cider, so I can’t comment really on the food but if the rest of the pub is to go on then I reckon you would be on for a treat. We will be returning to try out the menu!

Really nice country pub. Placed on the river Severn. Over looking a weir . If you like walking you can go along the river bank. Would recommend

I didn’t stop at the pub but I’m my campervan at the campsite run by the pub. The pub is superb, a real step back in time. Great beers and ales on tap, a simple menu very well done with an excellent selection of children’s meals as well. The location is superb, backing right onto the river Severn just down from the Weir. If Carlsberg did Saturday afternoon sat in the sun pubs, one withwith real history, great beers and sevice….

This is what I call a proper pub! Not well known to tourists but is still thriving with locals (and tourists who are willing to drive on back roads!). Serving authentic local beers/ciders and Wye Valley produce, you will find something to stave the thirst and hunger off whilst chilling by the river. A hidden gem, with fantastic service and a good vibe! I will definitely be back 🏆
