Canal Pub on the Coventry Canal

Guide To The Greyhound Inn

The Greyhound Inn, located at the historic Sutton Stop (also known as Hawkesbury Junction) in Coventry, is a charming canalside pub that dates back to 1825.

Originally built to provide food for boatmen and stabling for their horses, this Grade II listed building is situated at one of the busiest canal junctions in the country, where the Coventry and Oxford Canals meet. This makes it a significant site for industrial archaeology and a favourite among canal enthusiasts.

Poor meal, frankly. I would have said something when asked, but there was a family inches from our table, also not great, and I didn’t want to upset their birthday celebration.

Dry meat, horrible, slimy braised red cabbage, doughy Yorkshires, small, oily roast potatoes, modest portion size, and so on.

Did not match the solid reputation. The staff were good.

It’s a beautiful pub with a fantastic location. The food is not nearly as good as it used to be unfortunately. The last time I went I had fish and chips and I thought it tasted like low quality/average chain pub’s food but with the price of Gourmet places. Great place for a pint but not so much for anything else. They used to have a gorgeous selection of whisky but again they are all gone to make space for the usual brands which is not necessarily a bad thing but I just enjoyed the more researched old ones better.

Incredible transformation by new owners the garden is brilliant with lots of widely spaced tables a clear view of the canal and it’s fabulous curved iron bridge,

An outside bar makes buying drinks so easy and takes orders for food, at busy times expect a wait buy it is well worth it.

The location at Hawkesbury Juntion is ideal on the junction of Coventry and Oxford canals, about 5 miles by canal from Coventry Basin.

Parking is available but limited, and mooring is available nearby for boaters.

Beautiful traditional canal side pub. Very close to Bedworth & really easy to get to. Parking at the rear. Very cozy with a fantastic atmosphere. Dogs welcome.

I ordered food which was freshly cooked & of excellent quality. The steak was lovely & tender. Refreshingly, the white wine was nice & chilled too.

I went for the lemon meringue for dessert with raspberry sorbet; I prefer a little more tartness to the lemon to balance the sweetness of the meringue myself so would choose a different dessert next time. But it certainly gave me a sugar rush to get me home! 😝 A very enjoyable visit & definitely recommended

Phenomenal pub grub. Went as a party of 3 and had the slow braised beef feather blade, braised steak in red wine pie and pan seared tenderloin which all came with mash/chips, baby carrot, baby leeks and rich gravies to accompany. All dishes were cooked to beautiful perfection; quite possibly one of the best meals I have ever eaten! Pub is situated in a beautiful corner overlooking the canal and there is ample parking. I will be back!
