Guide To The Old Coffee Mill

The Old Coffee Mill, located within the historic Queen's Mill complex on Aire Street in Castleford, is a charming blend of industrial heritage and contemporary craftsmanship. This artisanal coffee business operates in what was once known as Allinson Mills, historically regarded as the largest stone grinding mill in the world.

Following its acquisition by Castleford Heritage Trust in 2013, the mill has been transformed into a vibrant community hub. In addition to the coffee operation, the complex includes a café, a craft beer shop, and a tourism information point.

Visitors can enjoy the unique atmosphere where traditional stone-ground flour production meets modern coffee roasting techniques. The coffee grinding activities pay tribute to the building’s 300-year milling history, which dates back to references of flour mills in Castleford as early as 1122.

This venture adds a contemporary dimension to the landmark building, which continues to evolve while honouring its industrial past through the careful preservation of its heritage features and sustainable practices.

Great little place in Castleford for a bite to eat and coffee. The ladies here were great and let me hang around while waiting for Halfords to sort my car. Greatly appreciated! The food and coffee were also very good.

I was in Castleford yesterday and had an hour or so to kill, The Old Coffee Mill was recommended to me by a colleague who lives in the area and I wasn’t disappointed. The staff are polite, friendly and very helpful, I was given the option to eat in or outside and was informed that where I was sitting was the designated area for dog owners. Although there weren’t any dogs in at that time I was told if I had a problem with them I could sit elsewhere in the restaurant. After studying the menu I decided to have a latte and a BLT and I have to say both were very good and reasonably priced, I definitely recommend this place and if I’m in the area again I’ll be dropping in.

Lovely friendly place and I have been a few times and never disappointed. There is a welcoming feel on entry and it is pet friendly. Food is well presented and service is good. Recommend small breakfast as it’s a favourite of mine. All round 5* – can”t fault it!

Love this coffee shop, mainly come through when work allows but when I do get to come in the staff are always very friendly and can’t do enough for you. The coffee is great, top tier lattes and the iced coffee is good in the summer heat. They play good country tunes, the decor is lovely and welcoming. Can’t go wrong.

Well what can I say, I give 5 stars all round for this lovely gem of a cafe. This cafe was recommended to me from members of my family who say how lovely the food and staff are. We tried it for the first time today, as we walked through the door we were greeted with a lovely lady ( to which I later found out is the owner). She asked ‘had we booked’ we hadn’t booked however she was able to seat us at a lovely table for two, that had a reservation on it for a later on. We were brought menu’s and then asked by a female member of staff if we would like to order drinks, we ordered drinks, which were served promptly, then the lady took our food order. Our food arrived within around 10-15 minutes, very quick in my opinion. When the food arrived it was very well presented, freshly cooked and hot. We ordered a Breakfast Plate and scrambled eggs on seeded bloomer with a side of bacon and maple Syrup. The food was delicious, the staff we encountered we found them all to be friendly. The cafe is beautifully decorated to a high standard and was so pleasant to sit in and eat at, very well thought out. We will definitely highly recommended this establishment and will definitely be back again.
