Canal Pub on the Kennet and Avon Canal

Guide To The Pelican

The Pelican Inn, located in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside near Froxfield, is a charming late 17th-century coaching establishment with a rich history. It originally served travellers making their way between London and Bath.

This quaint pub, once one of three coaching inns in the village, is now the only one remaining from that era and has preserved its traditional character while offering modern comforts.

Just a five-minute walk from the scenic Kennet and Avon Canal (near bridge 90 and lock gate 70), the Pelican Inn provides eight comfortable en-suite bedrooms, making it an ideal base for walkers exploring the stunning surrounding landscape. The spacious interior features flagstone and wooden floors, perfect for muddy boots, as well as a double-sided log burner. The welcoming restaurant serves hearty British classics alongside modern bistro dishes.

Booked online arrived ontime rest of table arrived within 15mins some couldnt make it which we let the staff know. First 4 drinks arrived in ok time the next 2 drinks took 45mins to arrive and we had ask twice for them after first ordering.

Ordered food was about 45min wait for this too the restaurant wasnt very busy during this time either. We all went for the roast 4 beef and 2 chicken and the ones who went for beef wish they had gone for chicken plates for beef looked half empty. Didnt bother with desserts as the whole experience was poor.

Overall wouldnt recommend the excuse we were given was that they had a lot of under 16 staff working make of that what you will.

Was at a wedding here last weekend, weather was fantastic so it went hand in hand with the venue itself, great space, staff were all friendly and pleasant and was an all round great experience. Unfortunately did not stay at the location but friends who did satisfied, plenty of parking too.

I attended a wedding party here at The Pelican Inn recently and it was brilliant! The staff were attentive and very joyful, the food was top notch and prices were very reasonable. The venue is perfect for any event, the garden space is well maintained and very beautiful. I even returned the following day for a Sunday roast which was to die for! I would highly recommend for drinks, food, or events. Great pub.

Just had an incredible meal here, we ordered Crabvacado burger and the trout and garlic prawns both excellent in flavour and presentation..

Finished with the rhubarb crumble and the brownie equally well presented and delicious. Service matched the wonderful food all in all an excellent experience.
