Canal Pub on the Staffs and Worcs Canal

Guide To Vine Inn

The Vine Inn is a historic pub located alongside the picturesque Kinver Lock on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.

Established in 1863, it originally consisted of two converted cottages and was opened by Henry Hicks, a local coal merchant who later became a barge owner, as a competitor to the Lock Inn that once stood across the way.

In such a lovely setting by the canal side linking the outskirts of Birmingham, Kidderminster and Wolverhampton area. Quiet, quaint little part of England. The sun was shining, the atmosphere was chilled. Ample parking, space for the kids and dogs to roam about. A great little escape for a meal, brunch catch up or a swift half.

Booked a table for 5 people on the decking, when arrived I was waiting in the queue and someone who the bar attendant knew came in and so the bar lady stopped serving and went and showed this friend her table! I got to the front of the queue and said I’d got a table reserved and was told it’s outside just look for the number. When I went outside there was someone sitting at my table and when I said I’d reserved it I got abuse from this lady because there was no reservation sign and she had been sitting there while! We asked for a menu and was told to find one. We got our condiments and the waitress asked if she could take them because someone else wanted them! We ordered food and the fish and chips my dad had was lovely however myself, husband and son had pizza because we had heard good things about it. However it took an hour to arrive (this was fine we didn’t mind) but when it came it was undercooked. There were so many people ordering it felt rushed and not cooked properly. The staff were walking around with food asking what they had ordered because they did not know where the table number were. The young ladies serving just didn’t seem like they knew what they were doing.

And to top it off we wanted a nice peaceful meal by the river after our canoeing but instead there was a signer, it was too loud so we could not hear each other talk. It ruined the nice peaceful afternoon we were after. Overall very disappointing experience

Wonderful location. If you’re coming via the canal then don’t expect to be able to moor very close.

Nice friendly staff – all very young.

There was a party on this evening so they had most the food off, which we didn’t realise until we asked at the bar about food. They were able to do pizzas, but honest their pizzas are bad. They’re perfectly edible, but that’s it. They could improve greatly just from using a proper tomato sauce instead of purée.

Oh dear, not a good experience here, sadly.

We ordered four ploughman’s platters. Waited at least 30 minutes for them, but then disaster …..the chef had placed all four platters on the heated pass.

The cheese had started melt. The crust of the pork pie was hot. The salad 🥗 was hot, as were the cream crackers. The butter had melted in the bowl.

Obviously, all the platters had to go back to the kitchen and be replaced.

A further wait.

We did ask our server to look at our bill as we had had such a terrible visit. After checking with the Manager he refused any discount.

Lesson learnt we will never eat in this pub again.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it and suggest you look elsewhere in the village to eat.

Extremely disappointing.

Had a very enjoyable lunch before continuing on our journey down the canal. The Moving Mountains veggie burgers were cooked and garnished nicely, and the chips were crunchy and tasty as well. Our server was pleasant and helpful.
