Guide To Whixall Marina

Lovely cafe for breakfast. Good food and service. Highly recommended

We stayed here for a sunny weekend on our way to Wales. The site and facilities are pristine. Toilets and showers are new and impeccably clean. There are some wonderful biodiverse walks from the site, including woods, peat moss land and canal side. Lot’s of birdsong and wildflowers along the way with interesting fact posts which make the walking fascinating.

The onsite cafe was great for an ice-cream in the sun.

Anglo Welsh boat hire

Staff where helpful but the boat was not of a standard that should have been hired out, especially for the price paid.

Engine was like the boat, very old and not running correctly.

Items in the kitchen were not cleaned before we receive the boat for our holiday.

All fittings were a mismatch where they had been replaced over the years. There were about 7 + different lights fitting and wires showing where the replacements were a different size.

The throttle lever did not work correctly.

The horn did not work, this got changed halfway through the holiday by another A.W. boat yard.

Other items were damaged or broken.

Diesel usage was higher than I have ever known in my years of boating and their fuel price was over 20p a litre more than any other boat yard, and over 150 litres used, that is a big difference in cost.

It is also believed the fuel tank, although we were told it was, was not full when we collected the boat.

I would avoid using Anglo Welsh, particularly from Whixall marina.

The Great Haywood boat yard were very helpful when we stopped there but don’t know about the condition of their boats.

Stayed here a couple of time when we just need to unwind and relax. Its perfect, beautiful and very peaceful. Accommodation is immaculate, we stayed in Bee Happy which is well equipped although it does need a toaster, we always take our own knowing that it doesn’t have one. Everything else is supplied even washing up liquid, T towels, dust pan and brush, plates, cutlery etc. Lovely welcome gift on arrival( wont spoil the suprise). The cafe on sight is lovely although we didn’t use it this time. Staff are amazing and very helpful. Showers toilets exceptionally clean. Cant wait to go again.

Well run, efficient cafe, decent value for money.

Young people often get a bad press, but my experience is that the service industry generally would be lost without them and, more often than not, as at Whixall, they are kind, polite and do a great job.
