Canal Pub on the Grand Union Canal

Guide To The Cape of Good Hope

The Cape of Good Hope is a historic pub located alongside the scenic Grand Union Canal in Warwick. It embodies the quintessential British pub experience, combining traditional charm with beautiful waterside views.

This beloved establishment, situated at 66 Lower Cape Road, is lovingly referred to by locals as “Warwick’s Best Kept Secret.” It serves as a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, and boaters exploring the canal paths.

The pub has retained its rustic character, featuring wooden beams, a cosy interior, and a welcoming fireplace for colder days. There is also ample outdoor seating along the canal, which becomes especially popular in warmer months. Under the ownership of Steve and Emma, the Cape is committed to supporting local businesses. It offers hearty British cuisine made with ingredients sourced from local butchers, bakers, and breweries. In addition to its delicious food, the pub fosters a strong sense of community and hosts various local events.

Nice food, great ales, and a very warm atmosphere. I loved the burger, and the selection of ales was both nice and diverse. Definitely worth a visit , even if you’re only staying nearby for a night, especially in warm weather.

Favourite pub in town.

The atmosphere is so calm. Sitting out by the canal is really relaxing, especially if the summer seating is out. It’s also dog friendly.

Good value for money, and their guest beer option means you can always try something new.

If you are looking for a really good value, high quality Sunday roast, this is the place.

The down side? Every time it’s sunny, we just want to go so we can sit by the canal with a beer.

What a great place! We were lucky enough to visit on a sunny day and sit by the canal. Lovely staff and delicious, fresh food. For more wintery weather, the inside looks cosy and welcoming too. It would be my local if I lived here!

We were on a weekend break in Warwick and needed a place to eat for dinner. Found this place on the Internet and booked for that evening. Could only fit us in at 8.30 pm but we’ll worth it.

was amazing. Place was busy with both diners and drinkers. Don’t be fooled by the journey through the housing estate, just follow the directions and park in the small car

park and walk to the front of the pub on the canalside.
