The pub’s character is enhanced by crackling real fires that provide comfort during the colder months. In the rear garden, an upmarket gazebo offers a refined outdoor space designated as strictly non-smoking. Beyond serving as a local watering hole, The Red Lion acts as a cultural hub for the community, hosting monthly quiz nights and Irish folk music evenings. It also organises an annual horticultural show that celebrates local produce.

Conveniently situated within walking distance of bridges 52 and 53 of the picturesque Shropshire Union Canal, this dog-friendly establishment is the perfect respite for canal-side walkers and locals alike who are seeking authentic pub hospitality in a charming rural setting.

I stopped at the Red Lion when I was stranded with a broken bicycle on my way to Market Drayton.

A big thank you to the lovely friendly people of Cheswardine and the Red Lion for their hospitality and practical support helping me to get going again.

The coffee is excellent.
