What a nice place to visit or stay over night while on the Shropshire Union Canal Llangollen Branch. Quick walking access to the town center and other unique attractions to the area like Abaty Glyn Y Groes / Valle Crucis Abbey the Remains of a circa-1201 home to Cistercian monks. and Horseshoe Falls.

Great place to moor. Several bollards needed sorting as some had no electricity or water. Also the pontoons are too short and very unstable.

But, Llangollen is a great place to visit.

We liked it so much, we came back for another Christmas in the basin. As far as I can tell, the same bollards are still a problem a year later.

Lovely mooring, quiet, handy for visiting the town and great company of fellow boaters. Can get very busy in summer but we’ve moored up several times in the weeks after the school summer holidays without any problem. You will need to visit the shop on Llangollen Wharf to pay your mooring fees and get a ticket to display in your narrowboat window or you’ll get clamped 😉

Llangollen basin takes 40 boats, and for those who get to stop there, there’s water and electricity points.

Llangollen is a lovely little place, the old railway, the river

A welcome end to a tence journey through the narrows. Well laid out with both mains hook-up and water on each pontoon for £6 for 24 hours. Lots of grass areas for a relax or a barbecue and a 10 minute walk to the town centre and the old Steam train station were you can take the old train to beyond the horseshoe falls. You can also take the horse drawn narrowboat from the same place you buy your mooring ticket.
