Upon entering, you’ll be welcomed by characterful low beams and beautifully restored fireplaces, which have been thoughtfully preserved through various refurbishments over the centuries. The intimate, low-ceiling interior creates a warm and cosy atmosphere where both locals and visitors gather to enjoy a commendable selection of local ales.

The Old Swan is not only architecturally significant; it is also situated in the historic village of Cheddington, which gained national attention in 1963 due to its proximity to the infamous “Great Train Robbery” at the nearby Bridego Railway Bridge in Ledburn.

Today, this charming thatched pub remains one of the most beautiful sights in the village, offering both visual appeal and authentic British hospitality.

The new summer menu was fabulous. So many mouth watering dishes that we didn’t know what to choose. We ended up having a lunch time feast with 3 small dishes to accompany burgers, peach & Parma ham salad and a bowl of chips. So delicious!! Always such a warm welcome at the Swan with exceptional service.

Popped in here mid-week. Just walked in, no reservation. Could pretty much sit anywhere, only a few others tables were occupied. Had to ask for the menu.

Ordered the steak medium-rare. Had a pint of Morretti. It took over an hour for the food to arrive! When it did, the steak was done to a “well” standard. Didn’t ask for a new steak.

The steak and dish overall was wonderfully tasty. Lots of different elements that introduced flavour; the mushrooms with the tomato on vine complimented each other perfectly. Presentation of the dish was great too!

Based on the reviews, I was massively disappointed with the service on the night.
